Blackstone Academy has worked with the Kids Consortium of Maine and Rhode Island Learn and Serve on multiple service learning projects over the past several years. In 2009, a team of our students planned and ran a multi-day conference for over 350 middle and high school students from all over New England. Many of our students met their service learning or senior project requirements through their participation in this activity. They learned skills which included workshop design and facilitation to organizational development and evaluation design.

One of our on-going Community Improvement Projects (CIPs)has been "Immigration Project." Through the support of Rhode Island Learn and Serve and organizations like International Institute, students have influenced others statewide. A book of photography and writing was developed by students which highlights the story of local immigrants known by the students. This work has been utilized by classes at local schools and colleges to sensitize others to the issues facing this population today.

Rhode Island College School of Social Work provides Blackstone Academy with 4-6 bachelor and masters level college interns each school year. The goal  of this partnership is to  assist Blackstone students to improve their ability to function effectively in school. Social work interns provide individual and group support, classroom support, and assist with linkages to families and outside services as needed. They may also work with Blackstone students, counselors and teachers on prevention activities, advisory activities, service learning project support, and social skill groups. Blackstone Academy provides clinical supervision for the interns.
